The well know Sun-N-fun fly in, in Lakeland, Fl kicks off tomorrow april 13th, 2010. An arriving airplane skidded off the runway this afternoon, Lakeland Police said. According to a report, Douglas Alan Jones, 59, of Belaire, Md., was landing his Luscombe Model 8-A airplane at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport about 2:47 p.m. when it went off the runway and into the grass. The landing gear collapsed, and the runway was shut down for two hours.Jones, the only occupant of the plane, was not injured, but the plane was damaged. The incident is under investigation.
